We'll Meet Again
WE'LL MEET AGAIN

(Musical)
[1 hour 24 minutes]

A young dancer trying to make it in London during
World War II discovers that people like her singing
voice, too. Although she's at first reluctant to sing,
she finally does and becomes a star. She hooks up
with a young musician who composes classical music
and turns his nose up at this vulgar "popular"
music, but she believes he can be a success at it
and sets out to turn him around.

Something To Shout About
SOMETHING TO SHOUT ABOUT

(Musical)
[1 hour 30 minutes]

Following three flops in a row, Broadway stage producer
Willard Samson is told by wealthy divorcée Donna Davis
that she will finance a show but only if she is the star.
The fact she can neither sing, act nor dance does not
deter Samson. His press agent, Ken Douglas, lives in a
theatrical boarding house run by his friend from vaudeville,
Larry Martin, where he meets Jeanie Maxwell, singing teacher
and aspiring songwriter from, of course, Altoona, Pa., who
has come to New York to sell her songs. Samson is not
interested in her songs as much as he is her stage abilities,
but he can't get rid of Donna. Ken is also plugging for
Samson to use the vaudeville acts, living at the boarding
house, who can't get work because there is no more vaudeville,
despite the fact that some of the acts are examples of what
killed vaudeville in the first place. The show appears to have
potential, with the exception of Donna, when Ken convinces her
she is the perfect "outdoorable girl" for a publicity campaign
and takes her to the countryside. Samson frames them as being
dangerous counterfeiters and they are arrested by the country
sheriff, and Samson rushes Jeanie into the star role for the
final dress rehearsal. But Donna is released from jail,
returns to the show for opening night and it is a miserable
flop. Jeanie returns to Altoona, Samson goes on a drunken
binge and Ken tries to save the show by convincing
Donna into quitting.

Hit Parade Of 1943
HIT PARADE OF 1943

(Music | Romance)
[1 hour 22 minutes]

One of the many films made at Republic with a year
attached to the "Hit Parade" title, which came from the
"Hit Parade" radio program sponsored by Lucky Strike
cigarettes. On reissue all of the entries underwent a
title change from "Hit Parade of 19??" to, usually, a
title of a song contained in the film, as happened in
the case of this film when it was reissued as
"Change of Heart" in 1949, and not known under that
title until 1949. Not reissuing the film under the
original title of "Hit Parade of 1943" had a two-fold
purpose; the audiences of that era were not much
interested in seeing a film twice, and a changed
title-even when the original title was clearly shown
in (very) small print in the ads and on the
posters---had a chance of being seen again by that
segment of the ticket-buying public who didn't read the
small print. The plot here is just a trifle---Susan
Hayward ghost writes songs for composer John Carroll,
whose charms evidently outweighed his song-writing
ability---played in and around some great singing and
dancing numbers by, for its time, a large number of
black performers including Dorothy Dandridge,
Count Basie, dancing by the great Jack Williams and
the team of "Pops & Louie" (Albert Whitman and
Louis Williams) and others, including Spanish dancer
Chinita Marin, billed as Chinita. The song "Change of
Heart", by Jule Styne and Harold Adamson, was
Oscar-nominated, and also became the title of the film
on 1949 reissue. Walter Scharf also was Oscar-nominated
for Best Scoring of a Musical. Republic seldom got two
nominations in any single year, much less two in
the same film.

Cabin In The Sky
CABIN IN THE SKY

(Fantasy | Musical)
[1 hour 38 minutes]

In this musical, Little Joe, an inveterate gambler,
promises his wife Petunia he'll reform and confess
his sins at church, but he slips out the side door
to play craps at the Paradise club; he's shot and
brought home with a mortal wound. Petunia offers
powerful prayers, and Joe gets a six-month reprieve.
Heaven's forces, led by the General, and those
below, led by Lucifer Jr., try to pull Joe their
way. Lucifer Jr. has a not-so-secret weapon, the
sultry Georgia Brown, and his idea men cook up a
great scheme to win Joe's soul. The General has
Joe's good intentions and Petunia's inventiveness.
Will she and Joe reach their cabin in the sky?

(Comedy | Music)
[1 hour 4 minutes]

At the Davis School of the Theatre, run by Jeremy Taswell,
where teen-age kids study drama and the serious arts,
instructors Johnny Hanley and Alice Taswell are in love.
The students, including Donald, Patricia and Peggy,
secretly want to become singers. Patricia's aunt,
Mrs. Davis, owns the school and disapproves. Donald has
written a musical comedy for the year's class play, which
the students want to do; but Mrs. Davis has selected and
insists they do Sophocles' "Antigone." Taswell agrees to
let the kids do Donald's show. Donald manages to keep
Mrs. Davis away on the day of the show, and when Broadway
producers in attendance rave about Donald's play,
she becomes a backer.

is to become friendly with Kathryn Jones, the colonel's

A bumbling pants presser at an upscale hotel's valet

encounters Nazi saboteurs.
======
Constance Shaw is a dance star on Broadway, Joseph
Rivington Renolds is a keen fan of her. After she is

SWING FEVER

(Comedy | Musical | Romance)
[1 hour 19 minutes]

Lowell Blackford (Kay Kyser) is blessed with a gift of music,
but also cursed with a hereditary "evil eye" which hypnotizes
people, and he is virtually a recluse. He goes in search of a
Broadway publisher for a symphonietta he has written, and
ends up crashing an audition at the Swing Publishing
Company, where he meets torch singer Ginger Gray
(Marilyn Maxwell) and her fiance and promoter,
Waltzy Malone (William Gargan). Ginger accidently walks off
with his music and he follows her to a gym where Waltzy's
fighter, "Killer" Kennedy (Nat Pendleton), has just been
kayoed by his sparring partner. Waltzy learns of Lowell's
hypnotic power and believes that Kennedy can win the
championship if Lowell uses his power against the champ.
He arranges for Lowell to lead the band at the club where
Ginger sings. The latter objects to the role she is to
play in getting Lowell to use his "evil eye" but Waltzy
persuades her to go along by telling Lowell that Kennedy
is her brother and it means everything to her if he wins
the fight. Lowell, after having Ginger turn down his
marriage proposal, joins the Tank Corps. Waltzy is
frantic and he has a phoney doctor tell Lowell he needs
rest followed by attending a prize fight, and also
tells him Ginger has accepted his proposal.

A young philandering playboy is sent to a College, somewhere
in the American West, and organizes a show, together with
his sweetheart, to save the college from closure due
to falling enrollments.
======
Rich kid Danny Churchill (Rooney) has a taste for wine,
women and song, but not for higher education. So his father
ships him to an all-male college out West where there's not
supposed to be a female for miles. But before Danny arrives,
he spies a pair of legs extending out from under a stalled
roadster. They belong to the Dean's granddaughter,
Ginger Gray (Garland), who is more interested in keeping the
financially strapped college open than falling for Danny's
romantic line. At least at first...

The Gang's All Here
THE GANG'S ALL HERE

(Comedy | Musical | Romance)
[1 hour 43 minutes]

Playboy Andy Mason, on leave from the army, romances
showgirl Eadie Allen overnight to such effect that she's
starry-eyed when he leaves next morning for active duty
in the Pacific. Only trouble is, he gave her the assumed
name of Casey. Andy's eventual return with a medal is
celebrated by his rich father with a benefit show featuring
Eadie's show troupe, at which she's sure to learn his true
identity...and meet Vivian, his 'family-arrangement' fiancée.
Mostly song and dance.
